Columbia County Fire Department, started on October 1st of 2006 has three manned, 24 hour stations and six reservist stations. Each station has an engine, a tanker, a QR or Quick Response unit and most have at least one brush truck.
Columbia County is a rural area and brush trucks are needed to access some of the wide open areas that are either planted with pine, hay, or other crop. Other areas of the county are just wild. Large tracts of mother nature that can be started by a passing motorist dropping a "butt" out the window, or hunters and recreational riders on their ATV's riding on toasted grass. The area is so dry right now that a ban on burning exists.
